Background:
Texas Diabetes Council
The Texas Legislature established the Texas Diabetes Council in 1983.
Since its inception, the Council has worked with private and public health
care organizations to promote diabetes prevention and awareness throughout
the state.
Activities mandated by state legislation include:

Public and professional education about all types of diabetes, its
complications, and quality self-care management techniques;

The development of programs for the prevention of non-insulin dependent
diabetes mellitus (type 2 diabetes) and its complications;
-
The development of programs for the early detection and diagnosis
of diabetes; and
-
The development of accessible, high-quality diabetes treatment services
and programs for patients with diabetes to improve glucose control
and work toward normalizing blood glucose.
